are norwegain HELLE knifes any good ? i have heard lots of good stuff about most scandavian knifes, but cant remeber anything about HELLE knifes..
i have seen a HELLE knife for less than a MORA with S&H cost, want to make sure that it is a good thing before spending money on it.

I have some I got from Ragweed Forge.
I bought the Speider & Speiderkniven models ... the "Boy" Scout & "Girl" Scout models. They're mine, but I got them so I could loan them to my teenage brothers & sister when they go on outdoor activities of various sorts. The scout branding tends to elicit less horror from the well meaning but uninformed "adults" that are there to take care of them. So far, no problems, though, of course, they don't take them on any activities where "children" are banned from having sharps.
I also got the Fisk for myself. It floats, in or out of the sheath, which is really cool and a reassuring feature in a fishing knife. <img src="images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
All three came very sharp. The leather thong that serves as a belt loop on the Fisk sheath seems quite flimsy. The belt loops of the others are solid. All the knives are quite nicely made, and hold an edge just fine for any use I've put them to so far. Definitely not hard core brutes, but that should be obvious just by looking at them. If you want a chopper, buy a chopper. If you want a knife, well, these are just normal old well made knives, and I like my three a lot.

I´ve bought one about twenty years ago. I was satisfied from the start <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />. It came sharp. It holds an edge and it´s pretty easy to sharpen. The sheath has a decent quality. The Helle knives usually have a laminated blade. The core is high carbon steel that´s laminated with stainless steel. So you have to take care of it to make sure that the edge doesn´t rust. I wiped mine dry before putting it into the sheath. That was enough to keep it from rusting.
I know some hunters and fishermen who also own Helle knives. For all of them those knives became their favorites.

I've got a Helle Fjellkniven , great knife, although I did manage to bend it a bit whilst batonning through wood to make feather sticks. Now that may be a plus point, that it bent rather than broke, and was easy enough to return to true again. Good for making feather sticks too. It's rubbish with a Ferro stick, doesn't spark enough to be worth using for that purpose, I guess the laminate outer is too soft. Seems like the laminate used by Fallkniven works fine with ferro sticks though.

I have a HELLE "Jaktniv" which is more than 30 y/o and served me very well under very harsh and demanding conditions. Took it out from the place I put it for a peaceful retirement, cleaned it, repolished a bit, resharpened a bit and the good old knife looks as good as new.

I don't know which Mora or Helle models you mean, but this one is rather pricey (mine is SOOO old,a model stilll with the aluminium guards, which these days are made of brass, but the blade is already of the sandwich type).

Quality knives, no doubt.

i have also seen a german knife, can't remember the brand name, but it's made of 510 stainless steel and has wooden handle's. If you know what i mean, are they any good ? they are a few € cheaper... <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
dunno with's HELLE i have seen, but the mora i ment was the trainings knife version.

i end up buying a Høvding for € 23. It's the only knife i have seen with's is so much cheaper than in the US, amazing... <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> http://www.ragweedforge.com/HelleCatalog.html sells this fellow for $ 59 !

you guys were absoluut right with the ferrsoium thing, the back does not give any sparks at all ( the cutting edge did..), the beltloops didn't really give me a very solid, strong impression <img src="images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />, but the knife came razor sharp <img src="images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
