Just a couple things i like. I took 3 7/0 trot line hooks, heated with a torch and straightened them, cleaned with acid then coated with cold galvinize spray. Tie them to a limb for quite and exceptional fish spear.
Also, took strike-anywhere matches, coated heads with wax, wrapped jute twine behind head about 3/4 in and secured. Cleaned tiny hand lotion tube and filled with Coghlan's Fire Paste.
Take a match, smear jute only with paste and holding match pointing down strike on stone or whatever. Works great.
By the by, does anyone know the correct pronuciation for the name Coghlan's?

Maybe it's just me, but that seems like an awful lot of work to make something to catch fish, but I'm sure it works admirably. I think I'll keep my fish hooks naturally curved for the time being, however, since I have a little more faith in my ability to bait a hook and sit there staring at the line for hours than I do in my ability to spear a fish, no matter what its size.

well, maggot, I wasn't taking a poll. I have read back in the forum about as far back as it goes and I don't think this idea is any worse than some I've read. In fact some one posted a question some time back asking about thoughts on frog gigs.
