I think our Canadian army and EMT pants have an interesting feature, the slotted buttons:

These are wind overpants, cotton nylon blend with the pockets actually only being slots so that you can reach the pocket of your normal pants underneath. It all depends on the conditions... The military makes durable clothing where style is second place to function.

I also have MEC River pants, they are very compact and lightweight nylon pants and bugs don't bite through them, ideal for the bush in summer.

Canadian style buttons rock but can be hard to sew yourself depending on how they fail...though that's rare at best.

+ 2, I also like the "slotted buttons" they work well and rarely fail.

Drop Zone here in Edmonton make BDU type clothing with the Canadian Style buttons. A bit pricey for me but the quality is second to none...all made in house (no made in China/Vietnam/Taiwan/etc)

I like BDUs but I seem to be very adept at ripping them to shreds while wearing them. I'm currently buying from http://georgia-outfitters.com/, but I've tried all the major suppliers. For what little it's worth, the (reliable) companies that advertise "genuine" govt issue are the ones that hold up the worst... smile

'genuine govt issue' equals 'made by the lowest bidder'
