I`m looking for some new pants and a boonie type hat.

I want some pants that can stand up to thick brush and sharp tree branch scrapes.

So, what is your favorite outdoor pair of pants?

I still prefer the older BDU's in a #4 Woodland camouflage pattern.

Ripstop for summer and the heavier cotton rayon blend for the winter.

It's so hard to tell what you get now days with BDUs, boonie hats, etc, so many chinese companies are making knock-offs the quality is amazingly different

I have ~ 5 pair of 5.11 pants I got on sale and they are holding up AWESOME! I wish I would have gotten 10 or 20 of them

Cabalas has very good quality outdoor clothing. I would bet Bass Pro Shop also sells good quality stuff.

Carheart or Dickie brand.

If it is warm then cotton denim work jeans, I like them in brown, work well and can handle a lot of wear and abuse. the browns are good and both brands have a nice olive drab. Either are nondescript and common rural clothing and blend well without standing out by trying too hard to blend in like actual camouflage does. If warmth and wet are an issue, the all cotton denims don't dry well, then a cotton/poly blend is the way to go.

Both are widely available and run about $17 a pair. For that price I can afford to buy two, maybe three, pairs for what BDUs cost.

Recently I ran into a guy who was wearing what at first I thought to be a pair of Dickies pants as they were very heavy duty and brown but the fronts of the pant legs were a heavy cordura material similar to what my SAR chaps are made from.

He said he got them from Cabela's. I've wanted to try a pair ever since but haven't been to the states lately.

Toughest BDU's I ever owned (and still have, after at least ten years of use) are of Nyco. Really tough stuff, but they only come in a few colors, and are a little hard to find. I am currently wearing some 511 cargo pants, and am pretty happy with them. For my noggin, almost always a Tilley, a plain OD boonie for certain things...

i like bdu style but they don't dry all that fast. thats a very small complaint.

i own 2 pair of Mountain Hardware Canyon pants and used them for all my adventures the last five years or so. They fit great, have a belt built in and the cuffs blouse with an internal shock cord and cord lock. (a great improvement on the bdu nylon lace). No cargo pockets but four very deep one in the usual places front, back.

Can't beat a bonnie cap in any military color pref. Last year bought a OR gortex bonnie and it did great in a downpor.
