Careful students of Doug's main site will have seen his Larger PSK, packed in an aluminum Wheatley Fly Box.

http://www.equipped.org/survlkit.htm#LARGEPERSONAL

I think this just became a whole lot easier and much less expensive. Wheatley just introduced their excellent light weight, perfectly sized fly boxes without any interior fly clips, compartments etc.

These boxes are 3.5 times larger than an Altoids tin. It is 15.2 x 9.0 x 2.8 cm, (~380 mL volume). An Altoids tin is 9.3 x 5.8 x 2.0 cm, (~108 mL volume), assuming perfect rectangle for both.

This cost me $22 at a local fly shop, and they are available in several anodized colors.

I am probably going to set up a kit that can be opened as needed (ie not stuffed and taped shut) using this box.

Good stuff, thanks for pointing it out. I would have never known about it otherwise. Now, I'll be picking one up shortly.

Thanks for bringing the info to the board.

Does anyone have a web site where these can be ordered?

Elnath found that site, it is in Kansas. I also no nothing about them.

I see you are in FL. I would recommend giving your local fishing shops, particularily fly fishing shops a call. Wheatley boxes are very popular with fishermen, and in my experience out here available in nearly every quality fly shop. These are a new series however, so the web may be the way to go.

I fly fish and generally cruise the shops when I am on vacation, as there are many high quality items that work great in a PSK. I have been keeping my eye on boxes made in China by Okuma. These are nearly as nicely made as the Wheatley but far less expensive.

I broke down and ordered one of the boxes from Yeagers. Got a call from them making sure I knew that I ordered an EMPTY box--lol.

Anyway, it was in stock and shipping today (according to their customer service person).
