First I would like to say hi to everyone.......yes I am a newbie to this forum. <img src="images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
My question/comment is has anyone used/tried the trioxane pellets the military uses? I have been experimenting with different methods to heat 2 cups of water as a benchmark.
I have found that the pellets work good enough so the water is hot to the touch in about 7 minutes using 2/3's of the bar.
They also make great fire starters and cost about .50/box of (3) bars.
Basiclly my concern if I had to bug out has been heating water/food without creating a big fire or in some cases you do not want to create smoke anyway.
I have read about the alcohol stoves but thought carrying the fuel around might not be to easy.
My intent for leaving my existing well prepared country home would be natural or other disater. I would expect to have supplies for at least a week on my back.
Any feedback will be appreciated.
PS: I have found a site that sells Hexamine that is abbout 300 Deg's F hotter and lasts 5 minutes longer than Trioxane. I will be getting some soon to try.
