I use to see boxes like this in smaller sizes. I wanted one for my PSK. Does anyone know where I might find one with the (Approx.) length and width of the smaller box but only an inch or so thick? -Biscuits
I would think cooking that involved boiling water would be safe... The water will keep the inside of the pan at 100 degrees C (212 F) until it evaporates. Most modern equipment doesn't leach anything out at temps this low. Even most plastics wont melt in this temperature range.
Now if you're going to fry steaks over an open fire. You might have some problems! <img src="images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
This is just my guess, you could always consult the manufacturer if you want to be sure.
I called Sigg about these and the lady there said definately, these are not appropriate for heating/cooking food since that is not its original intended function so....back to the Singapore stainless steel food boxes.
I just saw the disclaimer in the catalog in the shop I frequent. SIGG does not recommend cooking / boiling in the tin <img src="images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> But it looks cool anyway..... <img src="images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />!
Many manufacturers don't recommend doing lots of things with their equipment that some folks do with it every day. <img src="images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Too many lawyers much up the works. When we have some samples we'll see how they hold up, but I'd be inclined to think that with reasonable care, cooking wouldn't be a problem. They're just anodized aluminum, nothing exotic.
