I am in the market for one pair of paramedic scissors that meet TSA standards and one pair that do not have to meet those standards. I would like to get reasonably good gear but will not be able to spend top dollar unless "top dollar" isn't that much.

Your advice, please.

Thanks.

Edit: what looks to me to be the applicableTSA stuff:

Scissors: Metal with pointed ends shorter than four inches (4”).

Scissors: Plastic or metal with blunt tips.

Tools seven inches or less in length.

Fiskars Garden Shears are handy. 3" blades, but OAL is a bit over 8".

I use any $4 4" medic shears on the plane all the time. All great. Clip them to the OUTSIDE of your bag.

Just got into a discussion with a TSA screener about what a major handy tool they are. He was carrying a pair too.

Countycomm used to have some really nice surplus never used shears from the 50's or something that are forged steel. Bought a pair and they are great for cutting clothing and such. No pennies though wink Unfortunately they are out.

No, but Countycomm does have new penny cutters in no-glare tactical now...

If it helps anyone Oceanside City Lifeguards use the 7.5 inch shears, just the normal trauma shears...
