Wow, this is one of those why didn't someone think of this before. What a great idea. Because normally reinventing the wheel is a bad thing I wonder if it can hold gasoline...just the thing for when you need to hike 20km to the nearest gas station.

Brilliant application of elegant simplicity!
I wonder if they are stackable...

Having been a Scout leader for a while, and seeing what boys can do to hard-sided water carriers and how short a lifespan the carriers typically have, the exterior wall of that thing had better be darn thick to avoid punctures.
The funny thing is that is exactly why ships used to carry stuff in barrels. They were easy to roll. The only difference is that barrels had what in canoe terms is heavy "rocker" (wider in the middle than the ends) so that the barrel can easily be turned or "bounced" upright.

Wow. Every time I see something like that it reaffirms my belief that there really isn't any innovation anymore. Just rehatching of old ideas using new materials and new marketing techniques.
And when we learn that the new materials are harmful to the environment, can't be recycled, or is killing pigmy albino dolphins off the coast of Samoa, we make it out of old materials, say it has a reduced carbon footprint and charge double for it.

Doubt it will help the folks with steep rocky hills to climb from the well.

It wouldn't take a lot of mechanical know-how to take a few of them (maybe two, they look wide enough) and put something inside the hole of the container to accomodate axles that would rig up a little push-cart.
Or maybe one of the q-drums as a front wheel, with two wheelbarrow wheels for the rear ones?
I just wouldn't put anything too heavy in there, considering it's not a real rubber tire. Maybe some food and blankets in there in order to consolidate trips.

Jack and Jill could really fly down that hill, dragging along behind one of those things.
I once rented something similar, with handles, to flatten my back yard prior to planting a new lawn...

You don't have to have a new idea to get a patent. You can patent an improvement on an existing patent. That enlarged hole in the middle could be considered an improvement. All you have to convince is the patent office.
If the older company ever starts making their barrels with a big hole in the middle, royalties or a court case will follow surely.

Does the material used affect the strength and reliability of these containers? Would the Q-drum (LDPE) last as long as the Aquaroll (HDPE)?
