For about a year now I've being testing a useful emergency waterproof. Its basically a goretex liner lined with pertex to aid breathability. Its not a replacement for that North Face Mountain Jacket as it has a button front and no hood, but as a small squashable package its great to pull on under your regular non-waterproof jacket if the weather turns nasty. It is of course windproof as well. It comes in olive green lined with green pertex. They started off life as Dutch Army combat jacket liners but have been converted by SASS in Lancaster as a 'stand alone' liner. The real bargain is the price £19 / $27. Check them out at
