I have a nephew in law who has a male puppy (9 mos) Dingo and he (the nephew) lives in a townhouse and needs to find another home for it.

I am interested but I know very, very little about Dingo's. Are they or can they be domesticated?

Yes, although according to Elaine from Seinfeld (and Meryl Streep from "A cry in the dark") I wouldn't leave one unattended with a baby. smirk

Last I heard, Dingos are considered nothing more than targets in Oz. Same with the 'roos....

Thanks for the input guys. I now know that having a Dingo would not be a good idea. This is especially true with having a severely handicapped daughter. Thanks again!!

I'd meet the animal before I wrote him off. A friend of mine has a coyote blend. She took her time getting to know me and is very protective of her pack, but she is safe off leash and very playful. But that's a domesticated blend, not a full coyote.

But from what I've read the Dingo also forms very close and permanent pack ties. Dingo's sound like an interesting animal. I like the 20 year life expectancy.

Is it supposed to be an Australian dingo, or an American Carolina 'dingo' dog?

If they say it's Australian, I seriously doubt if it's any part dingo. They're illegal to export from Oz, and probably just as illegal to import here.

If it's supposed to be an American dingo, well, the jury is still out on them.

Yes, I know a lot of people sell dogs that are supposed to be wolf crosses, coyote crosses, dingo crosses, and heaven knows what else. And many/most of them aren't. The Wolf Haven people say that if a 'wolf hybrid' is housebroken and trained to do anything, it isn't any part wolf. Malamute, probably. Siberian Husky, maybe.

A family that can't be bothered to spay their Malamute has a dozen wolfy-looking Mal mixes to unload. "Free Malamute-X-Something puppies FREE! They get two or three takers. So they get a bright idea. New sign: "Wolf hybrid pups, $500". As dumb and status-symbol-crazy as many Americans are, they're lined up to get a wolf-hybrid, with cash in their hot little hands. Yeah.

If you want a dog, get one with a stable temperment from a reliable breeder, like a Lab or something. With your daughter's problems, you don't need an unknown quantity.

If you want a dog, try going to a rescue or shelter first. And it's not a good idea to leave any dog unattended with small children, no matter what the temperment of the dog or the children.

Agree on the rescue front. Both our dogs are rescue dogs. Actually ended up with a pure bred Standard Schnauzer and some Poodle mix of questionable heritage.
