I've had a few conversation with a family member who has small children about making some preparations in case. A few things put away to either use in case bugging out is desirable, many of which would also be useful if bugging in. But, I am pretty sure little has been done, and I've been thinking about putting together some things. Any ever done this for someone besides the family they live with? If so what did you do, what would you suggest?

I want to keep it simple, basic, etc., but I want there to be something. I'm thinking about one of these and adding some things: http://www.quakekare.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=17

I'd like to add: a water container of a few gallons; a couple knives (maybe two SAK Farmers, two Moras and one larger blade); a couple tarps; and some basic hygenic stuff (soap, shampoo, wipes).

Any suggestions on how to do this cheaply but effectively?

I ordered 2 BoB's from Red Flare and I am very happy with them. I am so happy that I'll be ordering another BoB from Red Flare.

The 2 person kit is a great base for a BoB. It has the basics that you need and there is enough room in the pack to add clothes, meds, papers, and additional area specific items for Bugging Out.

The new BoB will be for my Mom who needs the additional pack room for her requirements. I will be getting the 2pers x 72hr pack like I did for my DW.

Hi Dan,

Great idea giving a BOB as a gift. This topic was discussed here on the Forum a while ago in an interesting thread were a member was giving a BOB away as a prize in an auction, to raise money for charity.

I did a search and the post was by Marduk found here: http://forums.equipped.org/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=120903&page=1

During this search I came to realize that it is common for ETS members to give survival items as gifts.

Thanks wildman800 and SwampDonkey.

I'll read the other thread. And I'll probably switch to the Red Flare kit.

DW suggested giving it as a Christmas gift, and my response was that if I waited and something happened then I'd be really kicking myself.

Not surprised ETS members give them as gifts. When you think about and prepare for keeping yourself well, you are likely to also think about how to keep those you care about well too.

Well, I ordered a kit from Red Flare. See: http://www.redflarekits.com/mm5/merchant...;Category_Code=

And I am collecting some more things to stick inside of it. I'll take a Mora out of my BOB and switch it for another blade. I've also got some basic over the counter stuff: acetaminophen; lopermide hydrachloride; polymyxin ointment; wipes, TP. I'll add a couple tarps. Hopefully, they can take it from there. I may add a second bag.

The four-year-old told me she loved me "more than anything" this weekend.
