Killing two birds...

I have a second Suunto Clipper compass on order. It comes with a velcro wrist band. I plan to pop the compass out of the plastic housing and put it inside my Altoids tin. It's a decent button compass, and has developed no bubbles after almost nine months of constant use (on my watchband).

I also plan to use the velcro wrist band to hold my tin closed. I had been using a wire tie (plastic ratchet thingy) like the Australian Mark III Survival Kit. I like being able to open the kit by sliding the wire tie off. I haven't sealed it because I'm still developing it.

I carry the tin unwrapped, with my cordage in bundles in the bottom of the shoulder bag in which I carry the tin.

Once you pull off the azimuth ring the compass itself will come right out. I've done this twice so far. On the first one I did it with just my fingers but on the second one I had to use a pair of small pliers.

I was just woudering why you whold want to ruien A good
like the Suunto Clipper ($7.95) compass when you go out and get A compass like the Brunton micro for that is just $5 witch is A great compass. I don't know what is youer idea behind it
is it becase no air bubbles I just want to know thanks

The Suunto is a far higher quality compass than the inexpensive Bruntons made in Asia. It swings quicker and is less susceptible to sticking if not perfectly level. The quality of all the Brunton/Silva button compasses has headed south, unfortunately. Still adequate, but not as good as was before. They are aware of the issue, but so far no solution.
