Do you know friends who are infected with salmonella from contaminated tomatoes?

CDC reported 270 outbreak cases. The issue isn't resolve yet. Home grown tomatoes are not infected. some of my friends in the US just got the infected with salmonella from eating fresh salsa.

What drug can be treat for salmonella case?

Whatever the doctor says is best.

A broad spectrum antibiotic would certainly buy you time to get to a real Dr, I think.

NOT THE STANDARD DISCLAIMER:
From someone who is NOT a Dr but played a USCG Medical Officer for 3 years (15male & 1 female PCS pt's). By the way, my specialty was OB-GYN. Ain't military medicine great?????

Salmonella is transmitted by fecal contamination of food and water.
Like e. coli food borne infections, the usual causal sequence is related to use of fresh sewage (rather than well-composted, benign sewage) for fertilizer, or by fecal contamination by food handlers.
Typhoid is caused a salmonella organism: Typhoid Mary. Most folks get over salmonella infections without treatment and without diagnostic stool culture, which complicates the work of the epidemiologists who are trying to find the source. Very old, very young, and immune-compromised folks are at highest risk of serious illness. Most docs treat salmonellosis with cipro or levaquin.

Wildman-to paraphrase Judge Learned Hand, military medicine is to medicine as military music is to music-

I won't know if it was salmonella or not, but I got hit by some kind of stomach bug friday night. I haven't been able to isolate the source, however, as nobody who ate with me in the last 24 hours has had any symptoms.

Fortunately, this round was short lived and not particularly intense. No fever, and able to eat (slowly) within 24 hours.

Of course, this was while being able to lounge around at home while I recovered. I cannot imagine having something like this during a survival situation. That would be really, really, really bad.
