I just checked Ebay. $50 + shipping for MRE case. With all the flooding that is occurring in Iowa and elsewhere, will MREs be distributed and then sold making the price come down?

I hate to say it, but I sure hope so.

Join the army, they'll give you all the MREs you could ever want. Go on a field exercise and you'll come back with a dozen extra. I don't understand the obsession. They're an effective food storage option, but only if you have limitless money the way a national government does. For your average joe, they're way too expensive, take up too much space per meal and produce too much waste per meal. Get a couple of boxes of canned food, and make your own C-rats. Chili, beef stew, sardines, canned fruit. For cents on the dollar compared to what you'd spend on MREs. Add in the individual foil packets of Koolaid and single serving packages of crackers and you've just about got it. About the only reason I carry MREs in my car kit is because I get them for free.
