There are several ways to make fire; traditional bowdrills,hand drills, flint and steel, two appropriate stones, matches, stone and appropriate knife, lighters,sparklites or even carrying a live ember in a punk bundle. What people need to understand, to prioritize is ease and availability of these methods. I've watched the ice crystal method. When everything is perfectly made and you have SUNLIGHT it works. But where there is ice there can be a blizzard. That is when you better have those boring but dependable lifeboat matches or Bic lighter. Sometimes the unusual methods are more to impress people than keep them warm <img src="images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Pay attention to what is said there:" To practice, boil water for 10 minutes to remove gas". If you can boil water in a survival situation, surely you can have fire without this glass. <img src="images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

THAT'S funny...

I didn't even catch that. But as I recall, that was what they suggested if you wanted to practice the technique. I don't think it was suggested that you would do it this way in the wild.
