I'd rather invest in a boiling/distilling gadget plus some Activated carbon This thing is probably worth $500 for a soldier surviving, who can't for one or another reason to stop and(or) make fire, but afraid of a foreign bacteria. But what a rush in a civil survival situation? Also it's still no good for chemical residues.
