When my friends ask me why I go through all the trouble of trying to be prepared for everything, I tell them "just in case"

Tonight I happened across a "just in case" scenario and was really glad my home made vehicle trauma kit was within easy reach.

This happened right in front of us so I used my emergency items to help the guy until the pros got on the scene. I took a pic only after he was removed and brought to professional care.

IMHO, This is why being prepared is worth the effort. They think he will make it.

Looks bad, but not TOO bad, as I don't see the passenger compartment being breached in the collision - that's when it's BAD - bet he had a lot of non secured "stuff" in the passenger compartment to fly around (maybe even himself) if he needed first aid/transport

I think I've mentioned that the reason I got into "first aid" was my parent lived about 75 yds off an intersection that tended to have 2-3 fairly severe MVAs/week (basic problem - the stop sign was on the Ave, not the Street - and in this area, stop signs are almost always on the Street - so folks wold cruise down the Ave at 30mph, and never SEE the stop sign. Made for some bad ones. The one that REALLY made me say "You need serious first aid materials) was the one where the sway bar of the truck came through the floor of the car he hit, and went into the calf, and out the kneecap of the driver of the car (shudder just remembering that sight) - I was about 13 and a Boy Scout at the time - did my best to prevent him from bleeding out while waiting for the cops. I understand he lived, nit sure if he kept the leg or not - it din't through the knee joint - but along side it - did take part of the patella.

BTW after almost 10 years of protests asking for a traffic light, and something like 3 traffic studies, they decided we needed the light the week we had 10 MVAs, 2 with fatalities, in one 7 day period, all in good weather. Since the light went up, I could only remember 1 accident in the like 8 years I lived there, and Mom/Dad said they became extremely rare

Not shown is the other car involved, It was bad as It was hit by this one. The guy driving this was not wearing a seatbelt so he smashed his jaw fairly good. For one reason or another the air bag did not deploy. He was knocked out and bleeding a lot.

lucky that EMT was on scene withen 10 minutes.

Front bumper didn't get hit (it looks intact) so the sensor didn't activate -- hence, no airbag.

Vehicle damage vs occupant injury is a tricky area. I have seen vehicles totally destroyed, with only minor injuries, and then seen minor vehicle damage and a dead driver. Lots of variables involved...
