The Energizer Energi To Go Portable Mobile Phone Charger has just made it into my EDC list.

AA cells are just about available everywhere (either to purchase or available inside remote controls, flashlights, radios etc) , the ability to recharge a cell phone in an emergency isn't. The Energizer Energi To Go Charger is also supplied with a pair of long shelf life Energizer AA Lithiums - easily enough to fully recharge a cell phone.

These are great. I modified the cable on mine so that instead of a male mini usb port, it's a female USB A port. I use it to charge anything and everything that can charge off of USB with the help of a Ziplinq retractable cable. Phones, Nintendo DS, weather radio, etc.

Worked so well I did another for my wife so she never has to miss out on a phone call or valuable Nintendo time.

I'm guessing that's for the kids. I know with most younger kids a little Nintendo portable game can keep them from getting restless when in "boring situations." grin

It works for me, too.

I made one of these battery packs myself for my Palm Pilot, I do a lot of camping and love to read. I downloaded several hundred free e-books to a card for my Palm and wanted to be able to run it while camping. Easy to make if you have an extra power cord.

That's a great find.

At my local Big Box electronic retailer those are going for around $21 and come with a couple of plugs. While looking for one that would fit my office Pantech brand phone I saw a cheaper version at $6.50 which comes with around 7 or 8 plugs for many different phones.

Same form factor AND has a 3 way switch so it's OFF - ON (Charging) - two LED flashlight.

I've used to charge the aformentioned phone, a Moto Q and a Moto Razor with AA rechargeables to with good results.

Edited to add:

Here it is at the retailer's online store, but going for over twice what I paid at their brick and mortar location!!!???

Heh. I was offered one at a local store. Looked neat, even smaller than the one in the OP. Has an option to use one or two batteries (requires screwing on an additional section). Price wasn't murder, eiher, so I became intruiged. Well, I gave the clerk the back-up AA I carry in my jeans change pocket (which I had tested prior, seeing how it's for *back-up*) and asked her to charge my phone. Apparently, my battery is "faulty". Naturally, I "bugged out" immediately and made sure to re-check the battery afterwards.

Hope yours works better.

You can get the non-USB ones on ebay for ~$10 shipped. I wish the USB were that cheap frown

Make a USB charger, it’s somewhat easy to do. A USB charger puts out 5-volts at 1-amp max. You can get a battery holder (4-AA battery holder) at Radio Shack along with a 5-volt regulator. Find a USB cable and wire it to the battery pack.

If you don’t know how to do this, there are a lot of web sites that tell you how to make one of these.

The parts would cost $6.00 or so for this project.
