Speaking of First Aid Kit

Does anyone have a GOOD source for various items that go INTO the kit - meaning the disposibles. I need some replacement CPR masks, 4x4s I have, but the local drug stores don't sell kerlix, One local non chain store has the tape I like (3m Micropore) - but cloth tape is probably better for 1st aid, gloves I have (I asked for a few pairs at the nursing home where Dad is). Small individual use antibiotic ointment packs, drugs etc would be good too.

It just seems that the average drug store's "first aid" section isn't all that good. Once you get past 4x4s and rolled gauze and conformal wrap you get into the 'we don't have that' mode

My local rite-aid seems to have many things... I like Red Flare Kits because they have many, many things and you can buy as many or as few as you want

I would also plug the NOLS Wilderness Medicine Institute online shop - no kerlix, but they're very good for some other treatment essentials, good quality for what they stock, with not alot of markup. Their wound kit and refill packs are particularly good.

As you said, micropor tape just isn't any good for in a FAK.

In addition to on-line sources, look for stores in your area that specialize in medical supplies, usually found listed under "durable medical equipment" or some such. The type of store that carries walkers, wheel-chairs, all the things that a disabled person may need. The ones in my area ALSO carry a wide variety of other consumable medical supplies at very very reasonable prices, like alcohol prep pads cheaper than even wally-world, and certainly much cheaper than any chain drug store. They also carry 4x4's etc etc. If they don't have it, I bet they can find it for you.

For bandaging as well as some other equipment such as sutures, forceps, etc. check the local vet supply. They carry many of the same things the medical suppliers do and many times they cost less due to the volume they sell. I have found some of the wraps they sell are great because they are bigger than the ones you can get normally.
