But, since as I understand it, LEO's transporting prisoners, even violent felony prisoners, must remove the handcuffs while in-flight, the passengers who taped the BG to the chair will probably be prosecuted...

Violent felony prisoners usually get to ride on a special charter flight with ConAir. But yes, escorted prisoners (low risk) have to be "unrestrained" for safety/evacuation reasons. Besides, tape tears easily enough. Not so for handcuffs.

"...tape tears easily enough. Not so for handcuffs..."
Very true. And never trust "flexcuffs" (large zip ties), I have had more than one bad experience with those things...

Had a guy hooked up with metal handcuffs, he started kicking, so I flexed his feet together (two flexcuffs, interlinked and snugged up around his ankles), got distracted for a second, next think I knew I got kicked in the side of the head. He had managed to bend the little metal blade back the wrong way and was free.
You want to hear scary, I have seen guys, smallish guys, who were on PCP break the chain on a pair of Peerless steel handcuffs, with the cuffs applied behind the back. Then things can get out of control very rapidly...

Thanks for the info. It's good to know what works and what doesn't. Oh course, knowing how to get out of those flixicuffs might be handy some day... I have seen guys, smallish guys, who were on PCP break the chain on a pair of Peerless steel handcuffs, with the cuffs applied behind the back.Ye gads!! How badly did he tear up his wrists doing that? I would have thought flesh/bone would give before steel... -Blast |
