Reading this forum, and our current squirrely yellow alert (or whichever one it is) situation inspired me to haul my "big" first aid kit out of the car trunk and look through it - for the first time in, ummm, years. It's amazing what being stored in a high-heat, non-temperature-controlled environment can do to things. Bandage packets that were stuck together, pain pills crumbled to dust, latex tourniquent that had melted. Nothing would have been there when I needed it the most. So take heed, periodically examinig your emergency kits is time well spent!

My stuff gets so much use that it is constantly being refilled with new supplies but I know from experience how quickly stuff can disappear, disintegrate or expire if one is not paying attention... Originally as per advice of someone on the list I kept a sheet with expiration dates but since my friends realized I’m a walking pharmacy I put my kit to good use. It was annoying at first since I hat to disassemble my kit on order to get a band aid out or a Tylenol but with time I got very proficient in using my kit and repacking it and making priorities in terms of having right supplies available first.
