Today in class we were assiigned to read Ernest Hemingway's short story "big Two Hearted River." In a nutshell, a guy goes into the woods to get away from it all and recharge. Has anyone here read this? what did you think of it?

Sorry, can't shed any light on it for you. The only outdoor reading I do is Patrick F. McManus. It's easier on the "little gray cells" (Hercules Poirot).

Erik,
I enjoyed the story. The imagery of starting in the burned-over area, and how idyllic the scenery becomes as he retreats to the river where he fished in the past, could almost have taken place in his memories.
I remember this story from school it inspired me alot because I grew up catching trout in a small stream and It is still my get away to reflect and heal.
