I think Paul810 called it correctly. Add-ons like the clip, screwdriver bits for Wave/Charge/Surge, and so on, may not qualify for warranty replacement.
But for the tools themselves, I've been pleasantly surprised by Leatherman's warranty service. No warranty cards, no sales receipts, and no B.S. I even sent a friend's Wave that had been used very, very hard (bordering abuse if you ask me) and they sent a new one without protest. I do include a friendly note such as "you guys make the best tools ever, but something bad happened to mine ...."
I'm getting ready to send half the fleet for repairs/upgrades after ten years' use. When they come back, it will be like Christmas in July.
