A friend of mine showed me a knife yesterday asking me if I could identify it. I thought he was quizzing me but he genuinely didn't know. It was a large Gerber hunting knife and was obviously on the old side. Black handle, leather sheath, fixed blade.

At first glance it looked like a Harsey Hunter...but maybe not quite. What threw me was the stamping on the blade. One side said 'GERBER' and the other said 'TAIWAN'. The first thing I thought was there's no way an award winning all american knife maker like Bill Harsey would allow one of his knives to be made in Taiwan...but then again Gerber wasn't always as patriotic as it is today.

Can anybody confirm that the Harsey Hunter was once made in Taiwan? I know it's seen a few different versions.

I'm partly shocked...and partly impressed that I ID'd it right the first time.

Goes to show that second guessing yourself never gets your ahead.
