I have question about bandages since I ride my mountain bike frequently.

If I get skin laceration due to a fall, what type of bandage should I use to cover up the wound?

I don't want the bandage to stick to the wound.

For road rash telfa pad and tape should do it. Just make sure the wound is clean and free of debris dirt ect. Apply antibiotic ointment if needed.

a little pricey, but to buy the same stuff would cost you almost the same and you'd have a lot left over. and wouldn't be sealed as this is.

i think it's a great find.

the stretch burn gauze wrap makes it - not a place on the body it can't secure a dressing to.

Bike crashes suck big time. I had a 1979 Impala (big car) pull out in front of me several years ago while I was doing 65 Mph out in the country. I’m reminded of it every day.

I did get a helicopter ride out of it, too bad I don’t remember it.

Better to stay off road with a motorcycle, way too many people don’t seem to see them while driving. And now with everyone having cell phones it’s bound to be even more of a problem.

Check out this website:

http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/firstaid/index.htm

Lot of useful information.

Exerpt:

"After cleaning the wound, antibiotic ointment is applied. Be sure the patient isn't allergic to the antibiotic. The non-stick pad is placed next, then a gauze pad to cushion and protect. A kling wrap keeps the gauze in place."

I have to agree with the non stick pad followed by gauze
but what i use is antibiotic ointment followed by prewrap (thin foam used most often to prevent hair from being removed by tape) and a layer of tape. It is what I have been using for about 4 years now all though high school soccer which involved many abrasions due to sliding.
an added bonus is that with nothing more than tape and prewrap (gauze works just as well) you can create braces for joints and the two rolls dont take up much space in a FAK

I was always a big fan of the simple non-stick pad and some athletic tape. Sometimes, I would pour peroxide over the wound and watch it foam before using the pad and tape. if you plan on moving the joint, rip the tape into pieces of enough length to amek one wrap around your arm or leg, if that is where the damage was done, but not so much that the piece can wrap around the limb twice. Wrapping tape this way prevents blisters and loss of circulation, based on my experience.

Non stick pads are not non stick. They do stick, just not as much. I cut about ¾ of an inch off my left index finger a few years ago, I used the supposedly non stick pads on it. Well they did in fact stick, I had to pour water over the pad (twice a day, and it stung like crazy when the water hit the open wound) to soften it to remove the pad so I could change out the bandage.
