I was hiking last night. It was clear and the nearly full moon cast a crisp shadow. I got to thinking, "Would shadow movement give me accurate east west line?". My first thought was "Sure, the Earth spins, the moon tracks, why wouldn't it?". Then I thought " The moon's moving around the earth, maybe that would throw it off." Am I over thinking this? I plan on taking a compass and playing with it next time I hike at night. Any thoughts?
