But DW and family called him back... South Rim of the Chisos mountains in Big Bend, 7375' to the bottom. "The Window to the World" Casa Grande If I'm good, when I die this will be around the Bend. One more picture from the edge. Four days, three nights, twelve hour drive there, another twelve coming back, 601 pictures, and a soul lost to the mountains. -Blast

D@mn, Blast, that is some country.
Thanks for the pics. It tells me again that there are magnificent, breathtaking, sacred places in the world to be seen and walked. I want to walk them all. Though I know I never will.
More to the point, it reminds me that there are reasons to live, every day. There is always a spur of a trail that calls me onward, that must be explored; just trust, and keep walking. One foot in front of the other.

Nice Blast, real nice you lucky... (Be nice Blitz this is a family forum,) I am now officially jealous. My darling GF wouldn't have called me back, I can picture her saying "just a couple more steps back, you're not centered, the light isn't right…" etc. Great pics by the way, well done my friend. So when are you flying all of us down there? Wanting to be your new best friend, Blitz

I don't live in Texas anymore but I am pure Texan born in Dallas, and I have to agree with your "If I'm good, when I die this will be around the Bend." Big Bend is one of my favorite places in the world. thanks for the pictures

there are magnificent, breathtaking, sacred places in the world Big Bend is the top of the list. It covers over 1200 square miles and gets fewer visitors than Mt. Everest. A person could disappear there very easily. -Blast

*turns green with jealousy* Anytime you want to go just say the word. Oh, and you'll have to convince DW to let me leave her for another week. The lower elevations reminded me of hikes I had done in Vermont, except where Vermont had ferns this place had cacti. -Blast

Blast you lucky dog, I used to live in Beaumont and wanted to visit BB while I was there but, alas never got to (just to Corpus Christi). Now I live in Utah, am headed to Moab in May, and Arizona late June, will take pics (of course) and post when I return.

That probably wouldn't work. I once reloacated a cat (to the home of person who really really liked cats, and had a jillion of them). Almost full term pregnant, she was back at our home in about five hours. So we decided that she must really want to live with us, got rid of the kittens, had her fixed, and she was the second best cat I ever had. Point of the story, they can be like boomerangs sometimes...

Where was the sweet little kitty? As God as my witness, I thought kitties could fly... Reminds me of an old "WKRP In Cincinatti" episode where they run a promotion at Thanksgiving, and drop live turkeys over a shopping mall parking lot... Les Nessman is covering it live, and does a broadcast like the Hindenburg disaster. "Live turkeys plumeting to the ground, oh the humanity..." Later, the station manager says: "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly"

10 points to Be-Prepared for recognizing the quote!
Maybe it's just me, but I think that was the funniest bit ever seen on TV.
-Blast I apparently accumulated way too much meaningless trivia during the 70's. I do remember some pretty funny skits on that show. In a former life, I worked with a guy who really put tape on the floor of the bullpen we were in around his desk, "that's where the walls would be, if I had an office" Of course, back then, I think I was just watching the show because Loni Anderson was the "executive assistant" character on the show.

"...just watching the show because Loni Anderson..."
Oh yeah!
Actually, I loved the show for the comedy too, and the non-flying turkeys was always my favorite...

10 points to Be-Prepared for recognizing the quote! "The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement!" I once inadvertantly flushed a wild turkey while hiking through the Pocono's -- the thing sounded like a freaking helicopter as it flew by. Jim
