Or as I call it, January 80th, we’re expecting a high of 35 F tomorrow. OBG you don't know what your missing. Then I have to read about what a great time Blast had camping, eek I haven't been camping in 8 months cry

The snow is gone anyway, for now.

I gotta get out of here, got an extra room Blast? crazy

Sorry to complain, I must be getting old.

Feeling chilled

A bit off topic (sorry, Blast) smile but it's interesting how the seasons are defined, all based on solar events.

The seasons are:
Spring: Vernal Equinox to Summer Solstice
Summer: Summer Solstice to Autumnal Equinox
Fall: Autumnal Equinox to Winter Solstice
Winter: Winter Solstice to Vernal Equinox.

Vernal Equinox: Equal day and night
Summer Solstice: Longest daylight hours of the year
Autumnal Equinox: Equal day and night
Winter Solstice: Shortest daylight hours of the year

"Equinox" means "equal night" meaning that number of daylight hours is equal to the number of night hours.

The dates vary year to year, and the solar event actually happens at a precise time.

Here are the dates from 2000 to 2010: http://www.hermetic.ch/cal_sw/ve/ve.htm

Abstrusely yours,

HJ

There's still plenty of snow here. I hope the roof doesn't collapse on me while I'm sleeping.

Hah I say, Hah! Today, in about 90 degree temps, in a soaking wet tee shirt (both myself and my wife, heh heh heh), we installed about 200 ft of drip line to water cactus. Watering cactus, in the desert, can you believe it???

Sure, if you don't mind sharing the guest bed with the wife's cat. Oh, fyi: for some reason lately I've been sleepwalking with a bucket of water...

The precise time is when the center of the Sun is on the same plane as the Earth's equator.

The max change in declination for the sun is above 24 minutes of latitude, or 24 miles north or south, from day to day. One some days, there is no change. The lareger changes are near the equinox, and the smaller ones near the solstices.

All I know is it is about 35F (warming up!) with constant 35-45mph winds today.
