but it's interesting how the seasons are defined, all based on solar events.
The seasons are:
Spring: Vernal Equinox to Summer Solstice
Summer: Summer Solstice to Autumnal Equinox
Fall: Autumnal Equinox to Winter Solstice
Winter: Winter Solstice to Vernal Equinox.
Vernal Equinox: Equal day and night
Summer Solstice: Longest daylight hours of the year
Autumnal Equinox: Equal day and night
Winter Solstice: Shortest daylight hours of the year
"Equinox" means "equal night" meaning that number of daylight hours is equal to the number of night hours.
The dates vary year to year, and the solar event actually happens at a precise time.
