Today has been a windstorm day (45 gusting 60 mph) and tonight the severe weather is due to arrive. Tonight, we are due for lots of rain, possible tornadoes, and much stronger winds.

So far today, in my area, the winds have knocked down some trees, light poles, and electrical lines.

My preps have consisted of stowing all lightweight yard items into the garage and screened porch. Placing 6vdc lamps in the bedrooms along with flashlights throughout the house. The gas tanks are topped off. There is plenty of food, water, means to cook, etc, within easy reach, if needed. The cellphones are charging. And yes, there is fuel and a generator standing by if needed.

Has anybody else felt compelled to make preparations for this storm???

I know that cannot be said for some unforunates. The article I read put the death count at 9. 5 of the 9 were in a vehicular accident. Some more were missing. When I prepare, virtually nothing happens. We got some more wind (Gusting 55-60mph), some rain (large drops), and some lightening. Nothing else occurred other than I slept like a baby listening to the raindrops hit the roof and sides of the house, occasionally!!

Preparation means that I rarely get tested for real. I don't know why, but it's worth getting things out and putting them away.

I found 1 6vdc battery was dead so I'll replace it and get about 6 more since I already have the pigtails and 6vdc lightbulbs for them.

Do you make your own lights? when you mentioned them earlier I figured you were talking about your average light you'd buy at Wallyworld. I never thought of making my own, not a bad idea.

These lights consist of a 6vdc battery, 1 pigtail, and a 6vdc lightbulb.

I think you can figure out where to get a 6vdc battery.

A "pigtail" can be purchased at most hardware stores but you will probably have to ask a clerk for them.

Ask that same clerk for a box of the (6vdc) lightbulbs THAT WILL FIT THE PIGTAIL LIGHT SOCKET!!!!!

These lights usually last for a total of 24 hrs. They will provide enough light, sitting on a table, to play a card or board game, read a book, etc. They make great night lights for young children in their room and they are perfect for lighting critical areas at night, such as the bathroom.

I also keep the yard lamps that have solar cells. If the power goes out, I break them down by remocing the exterior shells and lens, and set them on the table to provide rechargable light.
