I like Redwing and wolverine work boots. Usually with a 8" top. These are rugged work boots suitable for every day wear and capable of dealing with a wide variety of rough conditions.
I have also had good luck with USGI old style black combat boots and USGI, or USGI style, jungle boots. But all these benefit from installation of good insoles. The jungle boots are a bit cooler in hot conditions.
But you have to take these recommendations in the context of my location, the southeast. Usually the lowlands and often swamps. It does get cold down here but temps below the twenties are fairly rare and the summers often hit 100F.
