I am looking to get some boots for myself. Something around 6 inches tall, comfortable for wearing for a long time and most importantly oil and slip resistant sole. Anyone have any suggestions? thanks Looking for something like this:

Hi Redflare,
I have a pair of winter boots that are only a little taller than the ones you posted. They are Rocky, Mountain Stalkers and the best thing is that they are very non-slip. When I bought them the specs said they were "US Postal Service Approved Soles" for Non-slip and I find that they grip on ice much better than normal Vibram soles.
Of course I should have bought 2 pairs because now I see that this model is not listed on the Rocky website, although they do list models with "non-slip soles".
I wear mostly Danners now, they are great boots but the soles are more slippery on ice and hardpacked snow.
Good Luck,
Mike

More then likely you're going to get many good suggestions, however can you provide some additional details? Such as: - Is this for hiking or work (EMS, fire/rescue, construction, etc)?
- Something for climbing or trails and mud?
- Will you be carrying light or heavy loads?
- Do you need a steel toe boot?

This is for work that requires rapid movements on a heavily oil covered floor, indoors. Steel toe not essential.

Steel toe not essential. http://www.drmartens.com/The original 1460 8 EYE BOOT has a comfortable air custioned sole which is oil resistant. They are very comfortable and flexible enough to run in. DM also produce an industrial range as well http://www.dmusastore.com/c-5-industrial.aspx

+1 on the Redwings. I work in a machine shop and the redwings are the most comfortable work boots i have worn and they hold up well. The down side is the price, i whine about spending over $200 for work boots but it is well worth it.
I know this sounds simple but make sure whatever you buy fits your feet correctly.

I like Redwing and wolverine work boots. Usually with a 8" top. These are rugged work boots suitable for every day wear and capable of dealing with a wide variety of rough conditions.
I have also had good luck with USGI old style black combat boots and USGI, or USGI style, jungle boots. But all these benefit from installation of good insoles. The jungle boots are a bit cooler in hot conditions.
But you have to take these recommendations in the context of my location, the southeast. Usually the lowlands and often swamps. It does get cold down here but temps below the twenties are fairly rare and the summers often hit 100F.
