I am putting together a PSK and have decieded to replace the traditional silver duct tape with bright pink Duck brand tape for the added benifit of visibility. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best tape to use in a PSK?

Good thinking! I use bright orange duct tape that I get at my local Wally World. Holds good and the "Duck" brand or whatever it's called comes in all kinds of different colors - orange, pink, green, yellow, etc., and I believe in camo as well, if you want your repairs and taping to be "hidden"...

The only kind of tape I'd NOT recommend is the gas station/dollar store variety. In my experience I find that it has inferior sticking power and problems if you want to pull it back off.

Welcome to the forum, as far as the best duct tape IMO is probably Gorrila tape, but I have never seen it in any color but the silver/gey color. But 3-M make good tape too and they make it in lots of color.

An option if you want colorful is racing tape. It comes in different styles ranging from packing type to duct tape styles and in many crazy colors and patterns.

It's mainly used for putting racing car and motorcycle bodywork back together quickly after a minor crash to save the race or quickly get ready for the next one so it's pretty tough stuff.

best tape is Electric Boat Company tape..if you find any
i'll take a roll...i think someone on this site awhile back
raved about it--some was left on a sub when it left drydock
and when it got back months later it was still stuck on--
but in real life those mini rolls from REI seems to be
very sticky--i gave some to a canoe buddy to fix a leaky
boot after his "big box" store brand came off and the REI
tape lasted the rest of the trip--five days..

"...have decided to replace the traditional silver duct tape with bright pink...for the added benefit of visibility."

I don't see any significant advantage for high-visibility duct tape in your PSK. The primary reasons to have it — improvised repairs, first aid uses, construction of shelter or improvised weapon etc. — usually don't benefit from high visibility. And in my experience, duct tape in non-standard colors hasn't had adhesion properties as good as what I normally buy (maybe I just wasn't buying the right brand in the bright-color stuff).

If you're thinking of it as a secondary signaling device, consider that the ETS Pocket Survival Pak includes 26-in.x 2-in. of duct tape; assume your kit has three times that, or 6-1/2 ft. That's slightly over one sq. ft. of tape. Not enough to be a meaningful signaling device or marker.

If your thinking is indeed signaling-related, get some Day-Glo surveyor's tape. Since it's thin, narrow and light, you can repack your own roll of several yards without adding a lot of bulk or weight to your PSK. And for duct tape, buy the best duct tape you can find, even if it means subdued colors.

Gaffer tape is equally as good as duct tape without the sticky residue. Here is a good item to add to your kit:
