Can you put a 58 pat cup (one that fits on the bottle of the NATO black water bottle) on an Esbit stove, thats the reason you can fold the sides part way in, right? I was just worried about it falling over.
thanks

Pete, I believe you could use an esbit with a 58 metal mug, you would have to watch it though as esbits are smaller than hexy stoves. I reckon you may be better off with a new hexy stove with the mug adaptor, or a US ring stove.

another tip might be to use four tent pegs set in the ground to suport your mug, one at each "corner".

Yu can dramatically increase Esbit efficiency with a windscreen. I made mine out of flattened aluminum cans. You can also construct a small grill with suitable wire mesh of sufficient rigidity. This will also support all those different containers.

Johno,

I like that link... depending on how old that photo is, one of those guys could be me... I jumped into that DZ many times. And if Chris K. ever got off the Island, he SHOULD recognize it as well - focus on the backdrop, Chris...

Hi!

That cup is rather thick for esbit fire. I have the same combination and if you want to boil water with it will take a long time. An aluminium foil cup is very effective with esbit as it is thinner.

i got one of those natrick stoves, they are nice to carry. the only problem is, ( atleast mine ) it will stick on my steel cup wenn i lift the cup up ( they should have made de stove wider ) and they dont have a bottom to put fuel on, so you have to place it on the ground with's can cause some problem with some surfaces...

Tom,
glad to please and to bring back fond memories. Personally though the thought of throwing yourself out of a perfectly good aircraft on a bedsheet scares the sh*t out of me. each to thier own though.
On a lighter note I liberated one of the natick stoves in Kosovo and use it all the time now, working and hillwalking. All I did was flare the narrow(top)out a bit and it sits on a folded piece of heavy tin foil. For its simplicity its great. Just a shame we (british) didnt think of it first. Oops nothing new there then.

OMG! For a few fleeting moments I was 19y/o with a pizza under one arm and a bottle of blackberry brandy from the package store heading back for my barracks near jewel beach
