I just read about this stuff in Outdoor Life magazine, and it looks like it might be real handy stuff to have around. Does anyone have any experience with it???
Cant say if I've ever heard of this stuff before, but I like the look of it a lot. It seems to be on a similar vein to dressings called Kaltostat. They are made from a compound called Calcium Alginate, apparently a derivative of seaweed. I wonder if this instant clot powder is similar.
I had a look around the site and it was quite interesting.
For their research animal models, I was surprised to see that in the group with standard dressing + vigorous resusitation, the mortality rate was higher than with standard dressing alone. Even the group with 2 dressings had a higher mortality than the single dressing alone.....
Even more surprising is that the group with vigorous resuscitation bled more after the standard dressing !! This is really rather strange. I certainly don't want to be vigorously resuscitated by these blokes! <img src="images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
But the data for the ones using quik clot is rather impressive I must say......
