I read Doug's recommendation on the new books by Tony Nester and Cody Lundin and decided to buy the books. Lundin's book had great sales on Amazon and Nester's book was already out of stock. I am looking forward to reading both books when they eventually arrive.

Has anyone else read them and what were your thoughts?

I read Cody Lundin's new book.

I found the psychological part in the beginning to be more interesting than most of the rest of it, which was (IMO) a rehash of most known ways to survive. Of course, picking up so much useful info here at the ETS site kind of makes the rest of his book redundant to me.

There were a couple of ideas in which the handling (for lack of a better term) was rather strange. The one that leaped out at me was his extremely brief of the SODIS method of water purification. SODIS is an easy, viable way to do that in some areas of the U.S., and he just kind of flitted right over it, without addressing the proper way to do it, or the geological and climatic limitations.

But if someone picked it up that is new to the idea of orchestrating your own survival, it would be useful and easy to understand. Most of the info was simple and was probably easy for Joe/Jane Average to understand and remember if needed.

I found those comic book characters very annoying, though.

Be sure to go through the lending library forums. There is some discussion of the various books inbetween the notes from folks that were done with the book and the others above and below them in line for the book. Cody's book was there as well as several others. Enjoy.

I thought the Lundin book would be useful to help my wife become more interested in my ETS planning. She used to make fun of the issue until she started reading a book on significant pandemics in the late 19th and 20th century US. She's at least recognizing that there are risks that we need to address.

NOTE: We're not expecting killer Bird Flu with 99.99% fatality. We're studying events like the influenza epidemic of 1918-1919 where the mortality rate was higher than it is presently.

Good reference book though the mouse recipe was a little over the top for me.
