This one is the real deal, and should be required viewing for everyone, IMO. I might have posted it before, but I think it's worth a re-post. It takes about 5 minutes to watch, but is very interesting and educational. Have your kids watch it too.

Thanks for the link, I will be teaching an Ice Rescue class next month and will incorporate the video into the class.

Hi Sodak,

Excellent video, but a few things seemed to be missing.

Firstly, there was no mention of using the ski poles as an aid to pull ones self out of the icy water.

Secondly, no mention was made of a carrying dry bag with a clothing change either, especially if one is contemplating crossing over frozen water such as lakes, rivers or even small ponds.

There is the series of ice survival tips available on the usual youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gOW8ZaYqHA (Part 1, referenced above)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyBVWrqvkEg (Part 2)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PAwzPgRYOI&NR=1 (Part 3)

All of them are pretty interesting.

It is the poor audio or does his start to slur pretty distinctly after the 9-10 minutes in the water (as would be expected I guess!). Interesting to see the effects of hypothermia on even the instructors teaching about it.
