Ok. Somebody had to do it, so why not me. I saw a preview for the new movie 'Bucket List'. The premise appears to be that the main characters are given a short time to live, so they create a list of all the things they always wanted to do, and then do them.

Yes, I know it's cliche. But still, I came up with a few. With all of the imaginations out here I'm sure there are some great ideas I haven't considered. So put aside your preparedness-minded, safety-oriented mindset and let me know what you would do if cost and personal safety were no longer relevant to your situation. Consider this a 'thinking out of the box' exercise. How many inherently dangerous things would really be a lot of fun under the right circumstances?

Reasonable ground rules apply (no danger to others, violence, flagrant lawlessness or depravity -- we want to have some fun but not be hated after we're gone). Just to take away the guilt, assume we've all provided a big nest egg/insurance policy for the family and have had plenty of time to spend with them.

Some ideas that come to mind:

- Sky Diving
- Parasailing
- White Water rafting (fast major rivers)
- Zip Lining across deep canyons
- Bungee jumping from a high bridge
- Deep water scuba diving
- Cross-country motorcycling
- A week alone on a deserted island
- Vegas gambling/partying/etc.

How about some more ideas? Alternately, would you try to spend every remaining moment at home with your family until the end?

Is your list done? Don't continue reading until it is. When your list is done, then go back over it and see how many you could reasonably do now even if you didn't have an indication that the end was coming soon. You might not get an advance warning...

Go up to the International Space Station.
Ride with a window washer on some really, really tall building.
Hike the length of the Grand Canyon.
Appear as an extra in some movie.
Hike all the "Long Trails" in the USA.
Go to India, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Russia, and Antartica.
Build an awesome treehouse with my girls.
Float a raft down the Mississippi.
Taste blubber.
Tan a deer hide.
Take off in a jet launched from an aircraft carrier.
Ride in a hot air balloon.
Tour the Vatican with the Pope.
Slap George Lucas upside the head for Ewoks, Jar Jar Binks, and young Anakin Skywalker.

I did this and now it is stuck on the hard drive of my old PC. I need to get it off there!
I would suggest doing a BTDT (been there done that) list to accompany your life list. You will be surprised of the cool stuff you already have done. My BTDT is on the same old hard drive.
Here are a few cool ones I remember from mine;

Sat ON Stonehenge, actually climbed ON.
Climbed Mt Shasta
Saw 100+ Grateful Dead concerts!
Driven across the US solo.
Made my own beer from scratch (full mash)
Hang Glided.
Rode on a Blackhawk Helicopter.
Been bow hunting for whitetails.

This year I intend to add; Caught a wild trout on a fly I tied streamside.

Anyway I was just trying to illustrate the point. Try out your own list.

Blast; cool list! The whole AT and PCT are on my wish list too! Not so much the CDT.
I have some friends in Iceland; maybe I can get them to FedEx you some blubber?
Bill

I've always wanted to canoe the length of the Mississippi River - north to south.

It probably won't happen, but a guy can dream.

solo one of the big rivers to the Arctic Ocean--the Coppermine, the Back..even the Churchill to Hudson's bay
would do..OR--get a fly-in to one of the big lakes in the
Canadian Barrens--like Reindeer or Nuetlin and get "lost"
amoung the the smaller lake around them untill i run out
of food..weeks?? and then make a sat phone call to the outfitter with my GPS location to fly me out..this would be a
"no map" trip--just paddle and wander around..
