sometimes I wonder about the people who work there.
Last week i ordered a pocket clip for my Wave. It just came today. Simple enough, but take a look at what they shipped it in. I wondered about the shipping cost being almost four dollars, and now I know why:

Here's the box. Judging by the size i thought i must be the DVD set i ordered.

Inside. Well, at least there was no chance of it being damaged.

"All that for This tiny little thing?"

They could have just sent it in an envelope.

ROFL! That’s great! You should call them up and ask them if they’ve ever heard of a padded envelope just to see what they say.

Wow. We order DVD's from Amazon from time to time, and they don't come that well protected...

I don't know about this particular case. Seems to me simple 5" by 8" padded envelope would work pretty well. But I have heard that some companies have found that package delivery services have a better record of reliable tracking, safely shipping and not damaging boxed that are a good bit larger than they may need to be. Smaller boxes have a greater tendency to 'fall through the cracks'. Sometimes literally.

On the positive side it got there. Something of a novelty I think sometimes. And they gave the clip 'room to breath'. So it arrived relaxed and ready to go.

That doesn't surprise me at all. In the past I've ordered 3 vic rangers in one order and later ordered a few farmers. Both times they came in a about the size of the one you show. The best reason I could come up with is that it is cheaper and more efficient( at least to them) to use only a few sizes of boxes rather than a large variety.

LOL - my students think I'm disturbed for chuckling while they're taking a quiz.

You could look at it as a waste of packaging. The optimistic survivalist realizes that he's just purchased the "Amazing Bug Out Box" for only $4.00
  • Sturdy device made from biodegradable and renewable resources!
  • Device can be used as emergency fire-starter!
  • Device is in neutral, tan color. Will easily accept inexpensive crayon camo coloring!
  • Doubles as a toy for creative children

Hi Erik,

A Vic. Farmer is an 93mm Alox SAK much like a Soldier but with a very functional wood saw added, it is often reccomended as a minimum bushcraft/survival folding knife and I EDC one often.

Here is a link to one at SOSAK online (neat site for the SAK lover) http://www.sosakonline.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=40

I'm an IT Manager at one of the Amazon FC's. It costs Amazon (and ultimately the customer) more money when an associate "overboxes" product like this. Glad to know we're not the only ones concerned.

re: "and long ago, Eagle Scout"

From my friends who are Eagles, I always thought that "Eagle Scout" was a lot like "US Marine" - Once one, always one

This happens all the time when I order anything from Amazon. I would have figured it was policy.
