The following website provides assistance when performing risk assessment for Texas Residents:
Texas Hazard Mitigation Package (THMP)

I found the databases helpful in determining the types of natural disasters (tornado, hurricane, earthquake, etc) that have occured in my neck of the woods. At least it would allow me to prioritize some of my planning to address the more likely risks (tornados in Dallas-Ft Worth area).

For those who are data impaired, you can using their existing map program to have a graphical representation. Yup, I need to draw a picture to figure it out. smirk

Perhaps others can provide links to information provided by their state governments.

Why is my area in Galveston County Texas shaded in black with skulls and cross bones under the Population Vulnerability: Hurricanes Map?

It even shows that I am surrounded by Superfund sites and hazardous waste sites!

LOL

That is an incredible website.

Excellent find, Brian. Still, I wonder how accurate it is? I don't see my house showing up on any of the layers.

It appears that most, if not all, states have a hazard mitigation plan.

Just Google "(your state) hazard mitigation"

Perhaps they need to add an icon of a lit stick of dynamite and place it near the Houston area? grin

I wish they had more specific information about ice storms. Perhaps I just haven't found it yet.

We've been hit with a few in DFW since I arrived in 1993. That recent (2007) storm in OK concerned me, particularly when places were without power for several weeks.
