Most GPS are impossible to shoot a bearing with, some with an actual compass are easier but still not the best choice for taking a bearing but can make following and maintaining a heading MUCH easier. Again, just another tool in the tool box. I don't go out in the woods without all three (map/compass/gps) but the GPS is the least important of the three.
