I found this website: trails.com. It'll cost you to keep using it, but there's a free 14 day trial that let's you print all the topo maps you can.

In my experience, the maps you can print on the normal home printer as so small as to be practicaly worthless. But these websites are fun to play with...

I was xmas and Hannukka shopping in this mall. Mall map said 'YOU ARE HERE' I didn't want to be 'here.'I want to be at Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon flirting with a Havasupi girl making bluecorn johnny cake. Later we went to a Christmas tree lot. Last time I went to a xmas tree lot I got lost and hugged a doug fir. This lady noticed me as the lot attendant was tieing it onto her roof rack. I Cut my way free with my RSK. It wasn't paracord. Trouble with Topos of any resolution there's a new Walmart smack dab in the middle of the trail route. And if not, just stop long enough to change your moleskin and socks. Some security guard just out of San Quentin will threaten you with arrest for trespassing.Thats how fast the real world is getting 'developed.' Topos can be marvelous things regardless of actual usefullness. Noted grizz expert Doug Peacock carried one from home while a medic in 'Nam.When things got bad he would stare at the tiny placenames and visualise the wild country waiting for him.

The best location for topographic maps is the USGS store (http://store.usgs.gov). Direct to the store is at:
http://store.usgs.gov/scripts/wgate/ZWW20/%21?%7Elanguage=en&%7Etheme=GP&OSTORE=USGSGP&%7EOKCODE=START

Select the Map Locater and Downloader option. This allows you to locate the area and lets you know what maps are available. The downloaded maps are GeoPDFs -- which can be used as regular PDFs or with the free plugin you can use some measuring tools.

If you have a printer or application that can tile a print job, this could actually be useful.

Of course, you could always just buy the thing for $6.00 . Probably cheaper in the long run and much less trouble.

Someone on this forum posted a nice web site that adds topographic maps, Aerial photos, and NEXRAD data to google maps. http://mapper.acme.com/

I've been trying to download a map from the USGS for weeks now, I can't wait until they get their store fixed, no matter what computer or web browser I try their system says the session timed out when I try to check out.

"... buy the thing for $6.00..."

We do a lot of that very thing. Biggest problem is, if you only need one map, it costs $6, and the shipping is another $5. That makes for one expensive map...
