True Life: I’m a Survivalist

Are you a survivalist, always working on your disaster preparedness skills? Are you convinced the end of the world is coming and you need to be ready for it? Are you building a shelter in your backyard for the next big hurricane or tornado? Do you have a pantry full of bottled water and canned goods in case of another terrorist attack?

If you’re obsessed with being able to survive any large-scale disaster, MTV and Gigantic! Productions want to hear about it.

If you appear to be between the ages of 18 and 25, and are a survivalist, email us at casting@gigantic.tv with all of the details. Please be sure to include your name, location, phone number and a photo.

Sounds interesting. I didn't see anything on the website about that particular show however. I'm too old though, yuck I hate saying that. Young wipper snappers.

I wonder if it includes surviving a kitty attack?? Blast are you interested?

I'm to old but thats OK because the last thing I want to do is get on TV and let the entire world know what plans supplies, and equipment that I may or may not have.

+1 on that sir. The fact that MTV has something to do with it give me pause as well. (Real World) OTOH it does sound like it could be entertaining.

And, besides being waaayyyyyy too old, I would probably just break their camera...

I suspect that many of the oldster would provide more knowledge (if not tittilating entertainment) on the subject. But I assumed right off that knowledge isn't the object, just the media.

A very good question- one that I'm afraid to know the answer of.

This is going to be bad PR for people like us- I see something like Survivor with skinheads and tinfoil hatters.

I can just see the scenario during filming now, if I was the subject, small town guy like me...

Me: So this is my stuff here *shows BOB and other gear*, this is what I get ready for, but I go to work, live with my family, and just do my thing like other people. I'm prepared for the worst to happen, but I've got a good attitude and you could say that I'm pretty well adjusted. It's kinda boring around here most of the time actually.

MTV Producer: Hmmmm. I see. Cut, guys. *murmurs out of camera shot* Can you start a fight, look all crazy and paranoid, and then go into the woods for a couple of days, just for rating's sake? You know that writer's strike out west is just killing us, don't you read Entertainment Weekly? *pulls out checkbook* So what do you say...

Either we you help us during production, or we will fix it in post production. You already signed the release.

Maybe VH1 will allow the older crowd to show off their preps...but count me out.

Hopefully they will portray survivalists as decent people.

No, I don't want to be a star. I don't even want to be moderately known. People can be a real pain in the ass much of the time. I just want to be left alone, to live the most pleasant life I can manage in my short time on this Earth.

I think the show has the potential to be interesting though, as long as its someone else.

They may start out showing survivalists as decent people, but MTV has a very rock-solid reputation: they will demoralize, immoralize, sexualize, and otherwise pervert any show that runs past one episode.

I believe that anyone who appears on MTV's new "show" (if they follow through), will be the type that salivates to get booked on Jerry Springer.

Hmmm, that actually sounds like a fun weekend...
