I like a pencil to roll the tape around. It can be used for writing, tinder, and whatever else you can think of.

You can flat pack the tape using nothing but the tape. Just pick the size you want and tape it back onto itself and start wrapping. It's a little clumsy towards the end, but for those gram counters out there you can't beat the weight savings.

I make mine about 6 inches long. Roughly the length of a dollar. That way it fits nicely in the bill compartment of a wallet. I start with a piece of waxed paper 3 X 6 inches then wrap untill it reaches the desired thickness. The waxed paper keeps the first twowraps from sticking glue to glue. That way that much tape is not wasted. Because the glue to glue bond is such that is almost impossable to seperate the two. Besides even if you can what you have left would be almost worthless for its intended use.

I use 1/4" dowel rod, cut to the width of the tape. Roll it on by hand. It's slow but accurate because you can adjust it as you roll. It's relaxing and, after you replace your "Ritter" roll, you can roll some larger ones for the BOBs and other kits.

No, it's perfectly good. I keep several credit cards wrapped with it in my cars (including my work vehicle), and it's just like it came off the original roll. Since all my duct tape seems to collect dog hair for some reason , before I put it into a tool kit or something, I wrap it with cooking parchment paper*, write "Duct Tape" on the outside with a felt-tip marker and wrap a rubber band around it.

*Cooking parchment is like paper teflon -- not much will stick to it, and you can use it for tinder, too.

They're a little larger than what's in the Ritter kit, but you can remove some until you hit the right size.

Using a drinking straw as a center for wrapping and then trimming it close works well when done!! Very light and compact roll sized to your needs!!

IIRC, I saw on a sight somewhere...REI or something similar a 3 pack of AMK duct tape rolls...from the company that packages the PSP...to me the small cost of that is well worth the time it would take to roll my own...but maybe that's just me

Ors, you can always roll some duct tape onto something while you're watching TV. There's not much on TV that requires much concentration. No shipping costs.

i've had bad luck rewraping duct tape..it seems to loose alot
of it;s "stick" when you pull it off the roll..wrap it around it's self and then pull it off again..i tryed wraping to around
Sigg fuel bottles..now i just get the 3 packs at REI..

All of the methods listed are great and I have used them all.

You just have to experiment with them and find what works best for you in different situations.

I know I've got duct tape stashed all over the place, because you never know when you might need it.

You can wrap it around an old pill bottle then fill it with needles, thread, dental floss, and saftey pins to make a small repair kit that takes up next to no room in your kit.
