Don't know for sure. But over the past 8 years I have had 3 physicians (2 internists, 1 endocrinologist) independently and unsolicited recommend that I drink 2 glasses of red wine a day. Seems like a good idea to me. smile
Apparently, any type of red wine will do.
So far, the medical insurance people are not convinced that they should cover the cost under my policy.... wink

The current advice seems to be a couple of regular sized glasses of Red is, on balance, more likely to do you good than harm. However recent studies* suggest you should not have two glass *every* day as that apparently takes your weekly alcohol consumption up into a risk category.

* If you look hard enough you can find a 'recent study' to back pretty much any position you can think of!

However for reasons why you might be better off drinking beer or even cocao than wine put this into Google " site:news.bbc.co.uk red wine good for you " It seems to boil down to the usual 'everything in moderation is OK' advice.

Apparently, there are complex natural anti-oxidents and other helpful naturally produced chemicals in red wine that are not present in white wine or distilled spirits. There are some folks who claim that good old grape juice (the dark kind I got as a kid) will have the same effect. Don't know of any studies that support this.

Just a note,
As a male two (6 oz) glasses per day are acceptable, as my wife reminds me, woman are only allowed one.

I find trying different types;merlot,cab-sav,etc. worth a look.

Also has some positive effect in the case of radiation exposure,
both as an anti-anxiety and metabolic clearance.

This is what heard also. I recommend Spanish Rioja smile

When I was stationed in Rota, Spain my intake of Rioja wines went up considerably when I found them in the Super Mercado at a really good price. The year was 1988 and I was buying 1975 vintage wines for cheap, excellent value. BTW, during this time my cholesterol level dropped to 132 which was probably a result of eating a typical Mediterranean diet, little to no dairy, olive oil -- I felt great. Just about any Red from the French Bordeaux region are good too.

California Reds: I prefer Cabernet and Merlot wines, but go for the smaller wineries you've never heard of. Quality over quantity.
