O.K. A lot of people have put up pictures of the knives they carry. So here are a couple of mine. The bigger one is in my big pack. The smaller is on the molle straps of my B.O.B. I just thought I would show them off, so let me know what you think.

Both of these are knives I made. I've been making knives off and on since the mid 80's as inclination and time allow. I've made and sold quite a few, it's all been word of mouth, I've never done a show.

Both of these knifes are ATS-34 steel and heat treated by the guru of heat treat himself, Paul Bos, to an Rc of 60-61.

This one has a 7 1/2" blade, 3/16" thick. Green canvas micarta handle with stainless tube flared and pressed into the countersunk holes. The backside is sharpened and has small serrations that are sharpened on a flat benchstone (no special round sharpener needed). They cut like crazy through cord and rope. Finally, it's bead blasted allover for the finish. I made the sheath also; it has a magnesium firestarter (thinned to 5/16"), a credit card sized diamond sharpener that was cut to the width of the firestarter and a stainless striker that all slides into the pocket.


This little one has a 2 1/2" long blade and is 6" long overall. The snap and kydex sheath is VERY secure and fast. It's small enough for a neck knife or is perfect for point up carry on a back pack shoulder strap or on molle webbing. It also has a bead blast finish.

Why yes I am! I guess I should have had that in my bio. Now remedied.

I like the snap idea too....do you know if the snap is attached to the surface or if there is a hole in the blade to accomodate. With the knife being super hard (over 60) I'd be worried that it could break at the hole.

I use Dot durable snaps. The post of the button cap needs a hole just slightly over 1/8" to attach the socket. I chamfer the hole to reduce stresses. A Rc of 59 to 61 are typical for ATS-34, so they are not "super hard". Truth is, it's not any different from drilling holes for the handle pins in most knives. There's not any worries about it breaking at the hole.
