That question is very broad in nature and the answer will vary amongst employers. Depending upon the company’s sick leave policy, size of business, number of employees, nature of job and type of business as well as other factors, employees may or may not have to report for work. Our work place encourages sick employees to stay home if they belive they are sick with an infectious agent (flu) and even has a Fitness for Duty Policy, in which the employee’s supervisor can have the employee report to our Medical Services (MS) for a fitness for duty evaluation. If MS feels the employee is not fit for duty or posses a health threat to others, the employee can be sent home and will even drive the employee home if there are not fit to do so, but then again we are a large facility with over 2,000 employees.
Keep in mind, that once the signs and symptoms start to appear, you are generally already infectious have been exposing others for anywhere from 1 day to a week.
