I have some sort of flu. Do you guys have flu this month? I have regular headache. My head feels dizzy.

I read on CNN news that employers expect workers to show up to work even when they have influenza. Do US employers enforce attendance policy even though people have really sick from the flu?

That question is very broad in nature and the answer will vary amongst employers. Depending upon the company’s sick leave policy, size of business, number of employees, nature of job and type of business as well as other factors, employees may or may not have to report for work. Our work place encourages sick employees to stay home if they belive they are sick with an infectious agent (flu) and even has a Fitness for Duty Policy, in which the employee’s supervisor can have the employee report to our Medical Services (MS) for a fitness for duty evaluation. If MS feels the employee is not fit for duty or posses a health threat to others, the employee can be sent home and will even drive the employee home if there are not fit to do so, but then again we are a large facility with over 2,000 employees.

Keep in mind, that once the signs and symptoms start to appear, you are generally already infectious have been exposing others for anywhere from 1 day to a week.

I've had a cold sore or two in my mouth for a week. Everybody I know is coming down with something. I'm not so sure it's the flu as it probably ranges from the common cold to the flu....depending on the area and the people. I haven;t had a cold in so long I'm not really sure what it'll feel like, IF this one matures, that is.

I had a virus or something earlier this week that lasted for about a day and a half, complete with vomiting until the dry heaves had me in full body pain.

The worst part was trying to stay hydrated because moments after liquid hit my stomach it wanted to come back out.

As for work, I'm self employed so when I called in sick, I knew I wasn't faking. smile

My wife has it now - I had it last week, the kids the week before that...

My boss wants us to stay home, I've had bosses that want you to go in.
