I needed about 4 pairs of extra prescription glasses for my various kits and vehicles. Found the below site and ordered 4 pair for $8.00 each, plus $4.00 total for shipping. They took 9 days to arrive. The quality is good, not great. http://zennioptical.com/cart/home.php

I used to have that problem. I got tired of stepping on them when it came time to put on my motorcycle helmet so I went and had laser surgery...worth every penny.

Hacksaw, If you break your specs a lot try the Flexon frames; they come in all kinds of brands and styles. Right now I am wearing a pair by Nike. You can bend and crush them and they go right back into shape; virtually unbreakable. Oh duh I just noticed you had surgery. Bill

I've tried similar frames. Having the frame come back is one thing but having a huge scratch across the lense where your books ground them into the pavement is another.
It's a non issue for me now.

I went and had laser surgery...worth every penny. I had it in '99 and think it was the best money I've ever spent. My at the time 65yo mother had it done at the same time, and she loves it also. No corrective lenses for me anymore, not even for reading.

I had the surgery in about '95, I think - for severe myopia. Technically I was "legally blind." 'Sounds dramatic, but a lot of people are. Part of the reason I had the surgery was because I realized how helpless I would be if I were in a situation where I was without my glasses. (contacts would be even worse, and you also have to have all those solutions)
I had the same great results as the rest of you, but as the docs told me, they gave me "normal" eyes. I did without any glasses at all for a couple of years, but as I (ahem) began to AGE, just like most other people my age, I began to lose my close-up vision. Now, I couldn't begin to read anything without reading glasses and even my computer and TV vision is beginning to need a little help. But, I can still see fine for everyday walking around, driving, and at a distance, and could get by in an emergency.
If you are thinking about the surgery - I too would recommend it.

I'm lucky -- haven't needed glasses yet.
But a friend of mind can't see any kind of detail close-up without his glasses. And he's always losing them. So when I gave him a big tin of survival goodies for his car, I included a couple of credit-card size fresnel magnifiers.
These help him (we've tried them out). They may not help people with different conditions.

I have two pair that I got about a year ago, they were pretty easy for the gal to adjust, and they are still adjusted. Best frames I ever had. I tend to reuse frames a lot, when I get new glasses, I put the last ones back for emergency use, and use the frames from the old backups. I got the flexy ones just because I wanted to try them. They are great...
