I had this problem
What I ended up doing, especially for the bigger more expensive items was to make a list of what to do and what to grab first in case I need to get my family out of the house in a hurry. And making it a point to follow it. For example, I place all my everyday carry items in the same place(bedside drawer) every single time I take them off. This includes my folder, sure-fire, cell phone, Multi-tool etc. When something goes wrong the first stop is that drawer, so I just eliminated the need to pack all that extra stuff in my BOB because I know I have it now. I would love to have a spare 200 dollar sure-fire flashlight in every BOB but Its just not economical. By following the same routine I ensure that when I leave I have all I need. I have other stops through the house where things are stored, Pantry for stored food and water, gun cabinet etc. When I arrive in my garage I have a shelf specifically for my Bug out items that I use regularly but always store in the same place in case of an emergency, such as a chain saw, two burner stove and lantern, tent etc, as well as camp fuel and gasoline. I would like to have most of these items in duplicate, but I can't afford it just yet. I have purchased all the things I need, they just tend to not be all in one place. By storing the items that I need in the same place all the time, be it a drawer or shelf, and sticking to my plan. I believe I am doing the best with what I have. As a general rule I always duplicate the items which are most important, and I always store as much as possible in my 4x4 so I always have something (rats, water, tarps etc) I don't think I am right or wrong, per say. This is just How "I" get around the problem of being too redundant. When I need out in a hurry, I will have all I need and I am working within my means. At the end of the day I guess that is all that one can do. Besides that, Always, Always have a plan B… and C
